Aki Kumar Rome Yamilov June Core Vance Ehlers
Aki Kumar brings an outstanding outfit to the Nevada City Odd Fellows Hall on Saturday, April 20, 2019 blending Chicago and West Coast blues with Bollywood themes from his childhood experience. Aki has been on the blues scene for over a decade, yes a relative newcomer, but journeyman harp player who has embraced old school, Chicago blues, while hanging out with the great West Coast bluesmen and incorporating that sound into his unique take on the blues.
This special event will feature Aki’s special Bollywood combo which comes together mostly to play pieces found on his Aki Goes To Bollywood and Hindi Man Blues recordings, playing great blues, sometimes sung in Hindi, and takeaways from Aki’s days living in Bombay (Ok, Mumbai).
This is a BLUES show but with a twist that only Aki can provide. His group is the ONLY one playing this sub-genre. Check out videos below for a taste of what you will hear.
Accompanying Aki will be drummer extraordinaire, June Core, who has backed Robert Lockwood Jr. and Johnny Shines, Little Charlie and the Nightcats, James Cotton, Laverne Baker and Angela Strehli . He is also in Charlie Musslewhite’s touring band.
Bassman, Vance Ehlers, played in the Grammy Award winning Little Charlie and The Nightcats and is a go to session player featured on several Greaseland studios recordings.
Rounding out the show is 24 year old Russian guitarist Rome Yamilov , raised in the the SF Bay Area and equally at ease with the lowdown blues as he is with heavy metal, psychedelic rock and ambient electronica, the talented and versatile Rome Yamilov is one of the youngest and most exciting entrants into today‘s thriving, cross-cultural West Coast blues scene. Already a master of the guitar, Rome has a long and impressive list of classic blues guitar as his influences – T-bone Walker, Albert King, B.B. King, Lightnin’ Hopkins, Otis Rush, Muddy Waters, Eddie Taylor, Robert Lockwood Jr. Among the current generation of blues guitar greats, Rome lists Kid Andersen, Chris James and Rockin’ Johnny Burgin as his big inspirations.
